01  /  The Idea

Inspired by natural movement.

The idea behind Zmago was simple: to build a dragon inspired by the natural anatomy and movement of a living creature. Its body is shaped around a repeating skeletal structure, with joints placed where movement feels most natural. From the neck and spine to the tail and limbs, each part was designed to work together as one articulated body.

02  /  The Build

Built one piece at a time.

Each spine segment is built around a double joint, with a curved slope and a gold claw attached to it. The double joint allows the segment to bend and extend while also providing extra stability. Repeating the same structure along the body creates a flexible spine that can hold different poses.

03  /  The Details

Every joint has a purpose.

  1. 01
    Poseable head and jaw

The head rotates on a swivel joint, while the lower jaw opens to reveal the red tongue.

  2. 02
    Articulated neck, body and tail

The neck, body and tail are built from repeating vertebrae. The neck and body bend up and down, while the tail’s multiple segments allow it to move more freely and curve into an S-shape.

  3. 03
    Rotating wings

The wings are attached with rotating joints, allowing them to swing around and move between different positions.

  4. 04
    Individually movable claws

Each foot has four individually movable toes, built from gold clips and white nails. Each toe can be posed separately, allowing Zmago to grip and stand on its claws.

10,000 supporters. Then comes the LEGO review.

Once a LEGO Ideas project reaches 10,000 supporters, it goes into the official review process. The LEGO Group then evaluates the project and decides whether it could become an official LEGO set.

Zmago is working its way toward that 10,000-supporter milestone.
